Two weeks from today, I will attend a Security Symposium hosted by the Africa Centre for the Study of the United States, Wits University in Johannesburg, South Africa. This symposium will foster dialogue and collaboration between law enforcement officials in the United States and South Africa. At this symposium, I will speak on the importance and significance of police/community engagement. I am excited to attend the Security Symposium and honored to have the opportunity to talk about a topic that I feel is critical in nurturing collaboration and improving quality of life issues in our neighborhoods. What makes me a good candidate for Second VP? In my career, I have worked tirelessly to ensure equitable administration in the criminal justice system. I have continued my work following my retirement by associating with policing organizations focused on improving the American justice system. To that end, I have reviewed and contributed to numerous state legislations, including clean slate and police reform legislation. Clean slate legislation erases nonviolent convictions from the records of individuals who have not re-offended for specified periods. It allows qualifying individuals to fully reenter society by regaining the right to vote, securing mortgages, pursuing higher education, and achieving meaningful employment.

What makes me a good candidate for Second VP? I am the only candidate who has helped develop a public safety program that is being used in dozens of cities across the country. Through the Law Enforcement Action Partnership (LEAP), I contributed to developing a community responder program that has been successfully implemented in dozens of cities. The program is designed to create teams of citizens specifically trained to respond to non-critical calls for service that don’t require a uniformed officer to respond.

I am running for Second VP on four platforms. The fourth is to focus on officer wellness. Law enforcement officers face some of the highest levels of hardship due to the trauma they endure in their careers. As such, we need to have conversations around officer wellness. If our officers are not fit, our communities will suffer.

I am running for Second VP on four platforms. The third is to grow and strengthen NOBLE as a business. As a 501c3, it is critically important that our business practices are without reproach. We will be transparent, continue to empower and support our board, and promote good communication throughout the organization.

I am running for Second VP on four platforms. The second is to secure NOBLE’s future through our associate members. Our members are vital to accomplishing NOBLE’s mission, and they should be supported and nurtured. They are currently on the front lines of what is occurring with policing in America, and they are our future leaders.

Earlier this month, I had the pleasure of attending NOBLE’s William R. Bracey CEO Symposium, where I spoke about politics and policing. I told a story about a situation where I was punished for standing up against a fellow police officer, how that incident shaped who I was as an officer, and how that led me to want to help make sure policing was done well.

I am running for Second VP on four platforms. The first is to Position NOBLE as the world's leading voice and premier law enforcement organization. To accomplish NOBLE’s mission of ensuring equity and serving as the conscience of law enforcement, we must lead the way and help develop the positive changes needed in America. We will be the example that other nations look to for how policing should be done.
